Big Cat

Made while quarantining in Taiwan at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, this meditation-inspired work is based on 騷虞 (zouyu), a lesser-known creature from Chinese mythology resembling a tiger. Watercolors, blended with chalky pigment, vividly dyed the cloth as the artist set intentions before reconnecting with family in Taiwan — the zouyu symbolizing a search for peaceful resolutions during a turbulent time.
